England V Italy 6 Nations Twickenham
Saturday 12th February and its another first for us. We went with our nephew Tom to see England thrash Italy at Twickenham. It was a fantastic day, the sun shone, we had little hassle getting there & back and England had an out standing victory. What could be better, well throw in a nasty burger and a few beers and it's perfect.
Deeply moved by the National Anthem I managed to keep a hold on myself and although have very little knowledge of the game was soon up & shouting with the best of them. Varying renditions of "Swing low sweet chariot" echoed around the ground but when the whole stadium sang as one it was quite deep and melodious, again very moving.
The Royal Marines abseiled into the stadium, there was a marching band & fire works and great people watching.
There was no trouble and no bad language, except a man behind us had some air horn which at one stage was threatened to be put somewhere dark, warm and quite painful if he did not stop blowing it. This only antagonised the aforementioned male who blew it all the more.
If the stadium had a roof on it, it surely would have been lifted when Jonny came on the pitch the noise was incredible. We had a good view seated in the north stand middle tier, there were 80,500 people there so you can imagine the atmosphere. We shall certainly be going again given half a chance.
