Weather was good, no crowds so early in the morning although the place was fairly busy. Rushed off to the Riverside arena and saw the Russia V Argentina match. Most of the players have cerebral palsy or a brain disability which affects movement.
The Russian Coaches |
Wowzer such bright colours |
We then moved on to the Wheelchair tennis which again was very exciting. England V Netherlands. The home crowd were on top form but unfortunately GB did not come through, what
a shame.
We went then to the food village and spent ages deciding as there was so much choice and variety. Eventually opted for a lamb curry which was excellent.
Back to the football to see England V Brazil. We had great hopes for Team GB but again they were out played and got beat 3.0 with a sending off.
We walked around the park taking in all the sights, so much work has gone into this to make it a success and everyone appreciates it. All the flower gardens are unfortunately finished so there is not a lot to see in the way of plants this time. I am glad I got to see it while it was at it's best.
Mandeville |
Loads of people went that extra mile to dress up for the occasion |
Later on we managed to spend half an hour or so watching the women's wheelchair basket ball. Now that is really quite an aggressive sport, we were amazed. Wheelchairs crashing into each other, knocking one another over and continual chasing & blocking. Very exciting.
Another impressive stadium |
Looks more like line dancing than the fierce game it was |
This is the boat that brought the Olympic torch to the Stadium it also was part of the Queen Jubilee I think.
We both had a very enjoyable day and I went home about 7.30. I felt rather bad at leaving Ian but he was getting up at 5.30 to go to work. When I woke up in my own bed on Sunday morning I knew I had made the right choice. Selfish? Quite possibly.
I would just like to point out that where the stadiums look empty it is because we always got in early and before the rest of the crowd. By the time the event started the stadiums were pretty full.
