We are hoping to see a river crossing of the wildebeest so we move down to the river. Any Big Cat Diary watchers will know this place as it is where all the leopards hang out. We cross the plains, there are hundreds and hundreds of wildebeest, they softly moo (gnu’s) to each other maintaining contact and reassuring each other. It is a nice melodic, calm noise, peaceful in the warm sun. There are quite a few young ones around, they calve in the Serengeti and have just moved up here following the rains. The grass here is green but very short, well grazed.
Down along the river we look for leopard but no luck. We do manage to see 5 or 6 hippo in the river who entertain us with a fight. We are quite close & are warned, that although it is extremely unlikely they will come out of the river, if they do it will be at an alarming rate, so watch out! I edge a bit closer back to the jeep.
