We find 2 magnificent male lions snoozing in the shade; they just cannot be bothered to do anything. They occasionally shift or lift a mammoth paw, the twitch of an ear to move off a fly & the occasional lifting of an eyelid, just to see where we are. They are good healthy beasts in good condition & well fed. One has bite marks up its legs and blood between it paws. It also had a big tummy, we leave them sleeping as the wind starts to get up. We find more lions hiding in the scrub, they pant like mad with the heat. We get so close you can hear the soft breathing of the sleeping ones & the heavy panting of the hot ones.
The rain is fast approaching and arching over the plain is a double rainbow. Like a window into another world. The rain starts to fall; we continue on, passing huge herds of zebra, antelopes and yes wildebeest.
All too soon it is time to get back to camp. We have been out for 9 1/2 hours. A good shower, drinks round the campfire. Welcoming the new arrivals we tell our stories & answer questions, find out where everyone has been & where they are going to.
