Buffalo 1 Lions 0

We spot 4 lions heads poking up out of the long grass. A herd of buffalo are passing by just above them. Suddenly the buffalo stop & sniff the air. They can smell the lions Josphat tells us. They split into 2 groups, one lot the older ones corral the very young ones and the other group heads off towards the lions. The lions retreat and the buffalo stop, the lions advance and the buffalo retreat. The buffalo advance and the lions - well you get the picture. This goes on for an age. It is very funny to watch, the lions are young about 3 years old & have just been turned out of the main pride, so are having to fight their own battles. The buffalo are too big & too wise for the youngsters so very soon, and despite trying to evade the buffalo by climbing up a termite mound, the scaredy lions are chased far away from the babies and into the edge of the scrub. Having had quite an adventure they settle down in the shade to rest up a while. Still plenty of new birds this morning, but again no leopard.
