CV19 The daily record Friday 8th May 2020.
Bank holiday for VE day . 46 days in lockdown.
A walk was the order of the day 1st thing but Ian wanted to be home for the 2 minutes silence at 11am. I didn’t think many or any neighbours would be doing it and I was right.
However whilst we were waiting for 11am I was pottering in the garden as was honoured with the sight of the Red Arrows flying right past the house with smoke too, it was fabulous and lifted my spirits. I have been feeling a bit emotional, tearful, no idea why. I am not down or sad but very emotional and I can't shake it off.
At 11am we gathered on the doorstep for the 2 minutes silence and only one other neighbour came out, after the 2 minutes several others appeared must have been watching it on TV. At least Willow didn’t let the side down.
It is a very hot day and now too hot to go walking so I do a bit more gardening fill another bag of garden debris until it is too hot to do that too.
At 6pm neighbours are meeting out the front for a drink. Safe distancing is observed but everyone congregates outside of our house and chairs and small tables are set up on the pavement and the roadside. It was really nice and we met people that we have lived near to but never spoken. There were about 7 houses and others from up Woodland way popped down for a catch-up. We thought it would be good to do this every Friday night. Might be a tad dangerous when the traffic resumes!
Lots of people held VE day parties and had cream tea at 4pm. The queen addressed the nation at 9pm
As the VE day street party went on longer than anticipated, the planned dinner was abandoned and pizza was eaten instead.
Update on planes not very interesting today apart from the Red Arrows and a Spitfire as they were taking off over us and not coming in.
There was a BA flight to Washington 878 Dreamliner a BA flight to Edinburgh a Ryan air flight from Stanstead to Lisbon flew over also an Air Malta came in.
As I write this 2 planes have come in.,one from Sofia and one from Doha.
Other points of note. (bit of slow news day)
All arrivals from abroad to self-quarantine for 14 days.
There is a warning about bogus coronavirus products. Fake testing kits, substandard masks and sanitizers.
Our local tip is open and the queues are not too bad according to a neighbour.
Our post is very delayed and Bob the postie says we are only getting deliveries every other day. Even when I have delivery dates stuff is arriving a week later.
I have to make a list of stuff I have ordered online as I am loosing track of things.
