Good Friday but not as you know it.

CV 19 10th April 2020

Good Friday. I normally start Good Friday with a Hot Cross Bun for breakfast but not today. (sad face) I could have made some but Ian doesn’t like them and I would have ended up eating them all and they are notoriously full of calories.

Not a great deal to report from the Floody household today. Been a bit of a quiet one. Stay at home was the order of the day. There were a lot of people up and down the road, as predicted more people were out walking around so we just stayed locked in, well mainly in the garden.

The morning consisted of prepping tonight’s dinner, I am cooking but Ian is hovering. It’s so nice in our kitchen now that one can work and one can sit or help or interfere (only joking).
Another lovely sunny day, a few garden jobs need attending to. Have given up trying to get the celandine out of the ground, as we have nowhere to put it now. Ian tied in the Clems and the rose over the arch. Joyce you will be pleased to hear I put up some netting for the Clematis to climb up on the front arch.
The Lilies I planted are starting to peep through and the sweet peas are pushing their shoots up. I need to look after them now. This is where I usually fail. No excuses now that we have all this time on our hands. I also moved some plants that had self-seeded into the patch of ground where the Prunus Serula came out.

The Blue Tits are flitting about and the nest is now lined with soft downy feathers. I did read once that the female plucks feathers from her own breast to line the nest. By the amount of feathers in the nest ours must be pretty bald by now.

How snuggly is this nest.

I forgot to mention that 2 nights ago we had a super moon. It was very large, very bright and very pink.
I made the effort to call an elderly relative that I hadn’t spoken to for a while. I am pleased to say he and his family are very well. He is well into his 80’s and is cycling 20-30 miles most days. His ambition is to be cycling on his 90th birthday.

The afternoon was spent reading, I am reading a bit of a page-turner called the lost swimmer. Ian is reading the Elton John autobiography that he is enjoying. Willow sleeps all day in his little bed that Ian said he would never use, he usually makes an appearance around 5 and then joins us outside or in his favourite position in the summerhouse.

TV last night was rather strange we watched Have I got news for you, which was done via zoom also Graham Norton, with no audience and guests on video link. It is very noticeable that presenters need close contact to get the vibe going. It was ok to watch but definitely lacking in the usual ambiance, if that doesn’t sound too obvious.

Dinner was Thai Salmon filo parcels with minted new potatoes and fresh asparagus from Norfolk. It was very nice, could have been better but ok. The filo pastry was a bit dry, been in the freezer too long.

UK and World news.

Boris is reported to be taking little walks and making steady progress.
938 people died in the UK yesterday.
2000 people died in a day in the US.
Idiots continue to flout the lockdown and police have stopped caravans from travelling to the South West, BBQ’s and sunbathing on beaches.
There are still reports that there is not enough PPE. Matt Hancock put out a request for any business that can adapt and produce PPE to come forward. It is also a logistical nightmare to get the PPE to the correct places, where it is needed most. London and the Midlands are still the highest hit with new infections.
They report that at present there are enough ICU beds, The nightingale hospital at the Excel is up and running and the one at Washington and Birmingham too. There are 7 planned in all.

For future record.

Everyone must stay at home to help stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading. Wash your hands with soap and water often to reduce the risk of infection.

To stop the spread of coronavirus, you should only leave the house for very limited purposes:
shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home
These reasons are exceptions. Even when doing these activities, you should minimise time spent outside of the home and ensure you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
You should also:
wash your hands with soap and water often – for at least 20 seconds
wash your hands as soon as you get home
cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands
not touch your face if your hands are not clean
